More and more initiatives towards sustainable construction are being implemented in the world. One of them: eco-windows, as they reduce the use of air conditioning.
There are several models, materials and systems to support sustainable construction. Double or triple glazed windows have an empty space between glass layers that reduces outside noise and increases thermal efficiency. Others offer different glass colors to filter or reflect light, thus keeping the environment warm in winter and cold in summer.
The materials used can be aluminum, wood, fiberglass, vinyl or PVC. Although many people claim that the latter reduces power consumption and CO2 emissions, others argue that its production, use and disposal pollute the environment.
A new option that is being developed nowadays is the window produced with photoelectric materials. It can generate power from sunlight. Researchers from the University of Science and Technology in Taiwan have created a self-cleaning glass that can generate power and improve thermal efficiency. These features can be achieved thanks to its three ultrafine layers: a titanium dioxide layer, which cleans the organic substances on the surface; a silicon layer, which generates power; and an insulating layer.
Moreover, the Dutch company Peer+ has created the "Smart Energy Glass,” which can turn sunlight into power. Another new device is Sphelar, a transparent solar panel made by the Korean company Kyosemi.
In Latin America, initiatives to introduce these new, eco-friendly, sustainable windows have been undertaken. The Instituto Tecnológico de Aguascalientes (ITA, Aguascalientes Technology Institute) in Mexico has driven the project "Eco-Windows Development.” It can help building more sustainable developments and generating a positive impact on the environment.

In order to promote and train about sustainable construction in Argentina, CEDU has developed a new area called Environmental Commitment, through which it introduces practices related to the protection and care of the environment..
CEDU has developed a Corporate Social Responsibility Program in order to work towards a solution to the lack of habitability in schools and to provide accessibility to educational training programs. Through the commitment to ethical values and the Community, the Argentine Chamber of Urban Developers intends to run charity programs and activities.
